Committee Makes Key Changes

Posted by James Barkley on June 14, 2018 at 5:55 PM Comments comments (1)

If you missed the Committee meeting on June 7th, you missed a lot of Committee business being handled. The members voted to elect new officers only every 2 years since the meeting schedule has gone from 4 to 2 meetings per year. A replacement Committee Secretary was voted in. All other officers remained. It was also agreed that the meetings would now begin at 10 a.m. instead of 9:30 in an effort to minimize the impact of traffic.

During the updates portion of the meeting, we learned that USC has an updated approved backflow assembly list. The Backflow Industry Product Fair is right around the corner in LA. It is an ABPA event but membership is not required to attend (for a small fee).

IAPMO is holding a 40 hour backflow tester course in Poway during the month of July. American Backflow is holding repair classes on June 20 and August 22 & 23.

Palomar College backflow tester course is not being offered in the Spring of 2019 and the Cross Connection Control Specialist course is only being offered in the Spring of 2019, not Fall of 2018.

Minutes will be posted in the Members Documents section of the website when they become available.

Scheduling Next CCCACSD Meeting

It's been a little while since we could all slow down enough to meet together. The Committee is planning to have a meeting in early June. Stay tuned to the Calendar for date/time and location.

Per the Committee's Certification Officer, Jeff Flynt, there are a number of issues facing the industry. Certification, on-line test reporting and Palomar College are just a few things that need to be known and addressed by the committee.

Quarterly Committee Meeting: April 2016

The Cross Connection Control Advisory Committee of San Diego County met for its regular quarterly meeting on April 14, 2016. We were graciously hosted by the City of San Diego Cross Connection Department. Topics of discussion included reports from AWWA, ABPA, IAPMO, USC Foundation, Palomar College and Cuyamaca College. In addition, Paul Molissani demonstrated his EcosConnect software.

The Field Inspection Report was given by Felix of San Diego Water. He described the make up of the Cross Connection Control department, which has 8 Specialists, I Program Administrative Assistant and a couple of trainees. Together the team supervises a cross connection control program encompassing 33,000 privately owned and 2,300 city-owned backflow prevention assemblies. Felix also described some of the changes being enacted within the department to further improve and streamline their function.

All in all, it was an informative meeting. Thanks to all in attendance!

Yesterday, October 9 2014, we had about 30 people in attendance at our Quarterly Business Meeting and Annual Barbecue. Reports were given from AWWA, ABPA, IAPMO, and Palomar and Cuyamaca Colleges. We learned that USC has published a list of leaded devices for which lead-free parts are approved and can be used in lieu of older, leaded replacement parts. The approved minutes for our July meeting are now posted in the Members-Only Documents area of the website.

Our next meeting is scheduled for January 8 in Carlsbad.

After a long hiatus, we are pleased to announce that the website of the Cross Connection Control Advisory Committee of San Diego County is once again up and running. Please pardon our dust, as it is still under development. We hope this website and blog will serve as an informative resource for those seeking to better understand backflow prevention, and as a tool for enhanced communication within the Committee.

Welcome!
